Our 2nd Annual Market was a great success! 

We had approximately a 30% increase in sellers, which was evident by the variety of products that was offered for sale.

We had people selling their products from all over the province and a lot of out of town visitors to the area.  Most people were very impressed with the show and with our Community Centre.

The success was made possible by the hard work of many and we would like to take this time to thank some of the people and groups outside the Members of the Craft Market that contributed to our day.  First of all we would like to thank Delisca Cook and her staff at the Prospect Road Community Centre for their support, Jason Bungay of the ROC for his continued work on our Website, St. Timothy’s Church, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and our local Girl Guides.  Your continued support of this community project is most appreciated.

The winner of our Door Prize was Susie Moffat of Brookside.

We are already setting dates and starting to compile information for next year’s market.  In the meantime on our website www.craftmarket.prospectcommunities.com there is a section titled GUEST BOOK where you can provide us with any input you have regarding the market.  We look forward to hearing from you.

 As a reminder, if you missed our market there will be a number of sellers at the Atlantic Memorial School Fall Fair in Shad Bay on November 19th from 10a.m.-1p.m.

The market is quickly filling up and we now have a cut-off date for registrations to be received with full payment.  Wednesday, October 12th, will be the last day for any crafters that are interested in securing a spot at the market.  Presently, the gym is completely booked and we are now filling spaces in the Dance Studio.  Our registration forms are on our website HERE or you can contact our registrar Melissa at 850-2440.

This year’s market is proving to be a very exciting time and here are some of the highlights –

The second annual Prospect Road Craft Market is being held on October 15th 2011 at the Prospect Road Community Centre.

It appears that last year’s great success of our market is being carried over to this year. A recent check with our registrar shows that we presently have approximately as many sellers now that we had in total last year. This is a good indication that it will be an even bigger event for everyone to enjoy.

If you are interested in setting up a booth/table you only have a week left to take advantage of the reduced rates:

Residents of Prospect Road and surrounding communities – $30.00 per space.

Residents outside the Prospect Road – $40.00 per space.

Applications received after September 1st will have a price increase of $5.00.

Our application and standards are now located on our website www.craftmarket.prospectcommunities.com As there will be a cut-off date for applications it is suggested that you send yours along as soon as possible.

It is our wish that this annual event will continue to be an opportunity to highlight and support our community. There are a lot of talented artisans in this area and this provides each one a venue to showcase their talents. A lot of hard work and pride is put into each product they produce and it is a wonderful compliment when the community comes out and supports such an event. Therefore we would like to encourage everyone to drop by on October 15th, 2011 and enjoy the sites and sounds of this year’s market. Also as a bonus the admission is FREE!!!

2nd Annual Prospect Road Crafters’ Market

Membership has now been established for this year’s market. We have assembled a large group of talented people who are setting goals to make this year’s market even more of a success than last year.

Registration has now began and should you wish to rent a space you may do so by contacting Melissa at 850-2440 or by emailing your request to craftersmarket@prospectcommunities.com

The cost of spaces this year is as follows:

Early Registration before September 1, 2011 –
Residents of Prospect Road and surrounding communities $30.00 per space
Residents outside the Prospect Road area $40.00 per space

Applications received after September 1st will have a price increase of $5.00 per space.

Tables and chairs are provided if required.

We have been receiving a lot of interest in this year’s market and it is therefore suggested that you contact us early so that your space is reserved for you. Last year we had approximately 75 sellers and between 800 – 1,000 visitors and the weather was terrible, so hopefully this year, should the weather improve, we will see even a larger group of shoppers.

Don’t forget a delicious lunch is available through the Ladies Auxillary of St. Timothy’s Church right on site.

So grab a friend or two and come out to the Community Centre for a fun filled afternoon and do some early Christmas shopping from local talented crafters and artisans.

The second meeting of the Prospect Road Craft Market members was held on June 6th at the PRCC.

Plans are moving along to make this year’s market as much a success as last year’s event. First of all it has been decided that to be a MEMBER of the Craft Market you must either attend at least 50% of the meetings and if unable to do so then you will be required to take on a task either helping promote the event or become a member on one of the other committees.

Our next meeting date of July 4th is the cut-off date to become a member of this year’s market so if you are unable to attend please contact Ken Beazley at 852-4254 or beazley@hotmail.com to express you interest.

From some of the statistics gathered last year, it is estimated that we had an attendance somewhere between 800 to 1,000 visitors to the market. This alone should encourage many new sellers this year from our own area as well as crafters and artisans from other areas of the province.

We are now in a position to start taking registration applications and our contact person this year for the registration package is Melissa at 850-2440 or by emailing your request to craftersmarket@prospectcommunities.com

Although this may seem early to start planning for the fall, there are many issues to be discussed and committees to be set up. The next meeting will be JUNE 6th at 7 p.m. at the Prospect Road Community Centre, and if you plan on becoming a member it is important that you attend, as there will be a cut-off date for membership this year. Guidelines are being prepared to identify who qualifies as a member of the market and therefore benefits from such things as planning this year’s event and other small perks.

As most of you know last year was a great success and with more people being aware of it, we are hoping for an even larger group of sellers this year. With this in mind we will require each of our members to take on a role in the planning process so that the work is divided evenly.

In case you missed our last update for the 2010 Market, we would like to thank everyone again who attended last year and made it such a success. Now that we have one year behind us we will be able to make any necessary improvements to make your shopping experience an even more fun filled day. Our website has a section entitled “Guest Book” where you can still go in and put your comments or suggestions for things you would like to see at the market.

If you attended the Craft Market or even just drove by the Community Centre, last Saturday then you would know what a success it was.

To be such a success you also know we have numerous people to thank and some of them are:

• Delisca Cook – Prospect Road Community Centre for providing us with the space on Friday evening for set up and all day Saturday for the Market.
• All the residents of the Prospect Road and surrounding communities who supported the market.
• All the crafters from other areas that joined our group this year.
• St. Timothy’s Ladies Auxiliary who prepared lunch for the shoppers.
• The youth volunteers that worked as greeters.
• Jason Bungay at the ROC for his continued work through support of our Website.

It was our desire to bring together our community through this market and we believe we reached our goal. Some people visited the Community Centre for the first time, did a little shopping, had a really nice lunch and met with some old friends. The only thing we couldn’t help with was the rainy weather.

Our wrap up meeting was held on Monday, October 18th when we had an opportunity to discuss all the comments and suggestions that we received from other sellers and of course from the buyers. These ideas will be all considered when planning next year’s Market.

Please keep in mind that this is only a small sampling of what you will find on the day of the sale.  Presently we have very close to 60 different artisans.

There will also be two youth groups helping out the day of the sale as door greeters and they will be fund raising for their group on this day as well -

1. OLMC Youth Group will be selling tickets on a basket of Arbonne Products (est. value $400.00) and
2. Local Girl Guides selling their Girl Guide Cookies

Lunch is being prepared by St. Timothy’s Ladies Auxiliary and will be available right on site. The admission price is FREE! And don’t forget to fill out the ballot for our door prize.

So mark you calendar now and drop by the new community centre for a fun filled day of shopping!

1st Annual Prospect Road Craft Market

The members of the Prospect Road Craft Market are all working in high gear to get ready for their first annual sale. Plans have been set in motion to make this a very enjoyable Saturday in October at our new Community Centre.

If you are interested in being part of this year’s market, time is quickly running out. Tables are now being booked and there is a process involving an application package and returning it to the members for approval, so you should contact Ken Beazley at 852-4254 or at Ken beazley@hotmail.com as soon as possible.

Posters, advertising the event, have been prepared and are being distributed to the members to post in Halifax and surrounding areas. Should you wish to distribute any of these materials you may do so by contacting Ken or by dropping by the Community Pharmacy and speaking with Jane.

What a great opportunity to visit the new Community Centre! Plan to shop for some very unique gifts and enjoy a leisurely lunch, which is being put on by the Ladies Auxiliary of St. Timothy’s Church.
